Why I chose October 4th as Release Day for Speak with the Dead

Speak with the Dead releases on October 4th, but why? Let me tell you why I picked that special day.

It’s spooky season.

Speak with the Dead is a dark fantasy with themes of grief and death. I knew I wanted the time of year to reflect that, and there’s no time more perfect than spooky season! A release date at the beginning of October gives readers the perfect opportunity to order (or pre-order) their spooky season read and then cozy up with it near the fire. I’m so excited to see what readers have to say as they read and prepare for the big day–Halloween!

October is one of my favorite months.

October has always been one of my favorite times of the year. I love the rainbows in the trees and the cooler sweater weather. There’s apple cider in hand, candlelit gourds on porches, and campfires galore. It feels like the world is winding down from the busy-ness of summer and telling us to do the same.

I decorate for Halloween at the end of September, and it's my favorite season to decorate for. The energy that Martha May Whovier brings to Christmas is the same kind of energy I bring to Halloween, and this year the theme is Speak with the Dead! I have fond memories of my grandparents going all out for the holiday. After we were done trick or treating, we’d head to their house and gather together where all of the cousins would show off their costumes and exchange candy. Their enthusiasm for the day rubbed off on me and I can’t let the day pass without getting every decoration out and dressing up. Let me know if you’d like to see my decor as it goes up, I think that would be fun to share with you all.

Besides October just being generally awesome, I also have several important dates in October. My husband’s birthday and our anniversary are both during October, and I’m excited to add my first book release to the list!

It’s a Saturday.

The 4th is the first Saturday in October, which means it's my first chance that month to throw a party! I know most book releases are on Tuesdays, but I’ve got a day job through the weekdays that takes up almost all my time, so I needed to pick a day off. I also hope this makes it easier for any of you to attend the launch party, but don’t worry if you can’t! I have something special planned for everyone who wishes they could be there but couldn’t.

That’s it! Pretty simple, but now you know. What is your favorite time of year for book releases? Do you have a preference? Feel free to reach out on socials and let me know!
